The Early Years Conference
"Valuing All Children"

( Click above for the meeting's Web pages.)

January 31-February 2, 2008

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Sponsored by: University of British Columbia [UBC], Interprofessional Continuing Education [IPCE]

All children have the right to opportunities for realizing their full potential. Some children by nature of individual, family, or community circumstances are more vulnerable and will need extra support in achieving this. In order for these supports to be most effective, we must look through the eyes of the child. We must integrate our knowledge of the principles of child and family development with research and innovative practice. Special attention will be given to children in care and children with disabilities.

Deadline for abstracts or proposals: 4/30/2007.

Event
#2
Detail:

Adolescents and adults with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder [FASD] have a high frequency of emotional and behavioural problems that can range from difficulty coping with life's challenges to severe psychological and psychiatric disorders. In the absence of empirically validated effective treatment approaches, professionals and caregivers have been developing a "Wisdom of Practice" response to both the unique and common needs of individuals, their families, and service providers. This conference will highlight what has been shown through this "Wisdom of Practice" to be most effective in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues in individuals with FASD, and treatment and support for their families and service providers. This conference will further focus on enhancing creative approaches to support, treatment and program planning with the goal of effective policy development and implementation
