Trance theory proposes to explain a variety of trance states and altered states of consciousness through the systematic identification of trance generating loops, the description of the resulting dissociated trance plane and the identification and measurement of the trance force as well as a description of its effects. Music, theater, dance and the visual arts represent areas of interest in which the dissociated trance state can readily be found.

The Trauma Center's mission is to help trauma survivors re-establish a sense of safety and predictability in the world, and to provide them with state-of-the-art therapeutic care during the process of reconstructing their lives.

The Trauma Center provides comprehensive services to traumatized children and adults and their families, at 10 counseling centers located throughout eastern Massachusetts, Its Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies has state-of-the-art seminars, lectures and supervision groups. The Weekly Lecture Series is open to all mental health professionals. The Research Department conducts studies on traumatic memory and how treatment effects trauma survivors' minds, bodies, and brains.
