The Independent Psychiatric Association of Russia [IPA], is a professional, non-governmental, non-profit, human rights organization of Russian psychiatrists devoted both to renewal of psychiatry in Russia and to revival of its noble traditions. It was established in 1989 as a reaction to the absence of genuine changes in psychiatry and the totalitarian inertia of official psychiatry in the country. The IPA is a member of the World Psychiatric Association [WPA].

The IPA of Russia is comprised of about 600 individuals and member-societies (mental hospitals, regional associations and so on) and has representations in 54 regions of the country.

    The objectives of the Indian Association for Medical Informatics [IAMI] are to:

    • Help organizations, hospitals, institutions, health &hospital administrators who are life members of IAMI to identify their health and administrative problems that can be solved through computerization and pass them on to information Technology companies (both software and hardware) for a solutions
    • Make all the required efforts to introduce computer education in all the colleges of medical sciences, dental sciences, nursing and pharmacy in India at both UG and PG levels through MCI (Medical Council of India) and respective University Authorities
    • Make all the efforts to improve the medical, dental nursing and pharmacy colleges in their educational and training methodologies through computer-aided techniques and computerized library information services
    • Assist government/public/private hospitals, nursing homes &clinics and other organizations/institutions/establishments having their own hospitals/dispensaries in planning, procurement and installation of hospital computer systems including computer-based medical instruments &equipment and other health related software through standard companies at reasonable rates through life membership in association
    • Suggest improvements in the existing services and computer systems if approached by any hospital/nursing home/clinic/organization/ establishment/institution/ laboratory/dispensary/ pharmaceutical company and find suitable software &hardware firms to do that job in an internationally standard design
    • Develop collaboration links with other countries, other national and international organizations/ associations/ societies/institutions and software’s development, knowledge base creation, software exchanges, bibliographic references etc.
    • Assist in development and employment of medical manpower of medical information’s in Indian hospitals / medical institutes/medical organizations and pharmaceutical companies
    • Help India to achieve high international standards through standardization in all the hospital procedures, including patient care, medical documentation, health statistics, computer-based medical instruments, patient monitors and other hospital equipment
    • Conduct periodic professional conferences at national level in medical informatics and periodic conferences/seminars/workshops at regional level to keep the members of IAMI abreast of concerned technologies involving computers and information sciences related to medical and allied fields
    • Bring out periodical news bulletins, Indian Journal of Medical Informatics and proceedings of the conferences to encourage members of IAMI in professionalism, research, innovation, publications and knowledge sharing

    The official publication of IAMI is Indian Journal of Medical Informatics.

    Founded in 1979, the Indo-American Psychiatric Association [IAPA] provides a forum for psychiatrists of Asian-Indian origin to consolidate professional identity, develop skills in addressing the bicultural mental health needs of the Indo-American community, establish a network for the exchange of information, obtain mentorship in fulfilling professional aspirations in the larger psychiatric community of North America, and leave a legacy for subsequent generations of Indo-American mental health professionals.

    Goals:

    • Promote professional and social cohesiveness among psychiatrists of Asian-Indian cultural backgrounds
    • Promote learning and research in areas related to personality development, coping skills and psycho-pathology in people of Indian origin
    • Educate individuals and families of Indian origin about mental health services
    • Advocate for the special needs of psychiatrists of Asian-Indian origin
    • Establish close ties with related professional societies, such as the American Psychiatric Association [APA], Indian Psychiatric Society [IPS], American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin [AAPI], organizations serving International Medical Graduates, and organizations addressing the mental health needs of Indo-Americans
    • Publicize professional achievements of Indo-American psychiatrists at all career levels
    • Establish funds and awards for outstanding Indo-American psychiatrists making significant scientific and service contributions
    • Leave a body of scholarly work and a professional organization to serve subsequent generations of Indo-American psychiatrists and the Indo-American community
