The Facet Theory Association [FTA] was founded in 1991. It aims to facilitate communication, interaction and exchange of ideas among scholars engaged in facet theory.

Facet theory is a systematic approach for coordinating theory and research. For research to lead to cumulative results it should be in a form that aids perception of systematic relationships in empirical data. Facet theory involves a formal way of classifying variables. Applications have ranged beyond the behavioral sciences in areas involving complex multivariate structures.
