Event

  1. 21-st International Congress - Medical Informatics Europe [MIE2007]: "eHealth Beyond the Horizon - Get IT There" May 26-28, 2008: Göteborg, Sweden

Event
#1
Detail:

Medical informatics has developed from a merely technically oriented discipline towards a cross-disciplinary field in the intersection of health, engineering and social sciences. Societal and demographic changes such as an ageing society, increased human mobility and lifestyle-related health problems but also the rapid development of information producing medical technology challenge our field of research.

European healthcare systems will have to meet increased patient and citizen demands with easy-to-use cross-border information technology. To provide high-quality health care and prevention, these systems should fulfil not only clinical and technical demands, but also economic, legal, social, and ethical requirements. In the future, eHealth has to become an integrated part of our society.

Topics:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Consumer informatics
  • Health information systems
  • Home-based eHealth
  • Human-Computer interaction
  • Imaging and visualisation
  • Evaluation
  • Decision support and knowledge management
  • Learning and education
  • Medical devices
  • Modelling and simulation
  • National eHealth roadmaps
  • Nursing informatics

About:

Fédération Européenne des Associations de Psychologues, Europäische Föderation des Berusfsverbände von Psychologen [EFPPA] is a federation of national Psychology Associations and is the only European organisation entitled to speak for European psychologists. It provides a forum for European co-operation in a wide range of fields of psychology practice and research.

There are 30 member associations of EFPPA representing about 110,000 psychologists. The member organisations of EFPPA are concerned with promoting and improving psychology as a profession and as a discipline, particularly, though not exclusively, in applied settings and with emphasis on the training and research associated with such practice. The psychologists in the member associations include practitioners as well as academic and research psychologists. The Federation has as one of its goals the integration of practice with research and the promotion of an integrated discipline of psychology.

The European Federation of Professional Psychologists Associations was founded in Germany in 1981, when representatives of 12 national psychology associations signed the Statutes. The first General Assembly was held in Heidelberg in 1981. Since that time General Assemblies have been held every two years: 1982 Edinburgh, 1984 Vienna, 1986 Lausanne, 1988 Rome,1990 Luxembourg, 1991 (Extraordinary G.A.) Budapest, 1992 Brussels, 1993 Tampere, 1995 Athens, 1997 Dublin. The EFPPA General Assembly is now held in conjunction with the biennial European Congress of Psychology.

The Federation Web site includes the useful "Guia informativa para psicólogos y estudiantes de Psicología que desean desplazarse a otros países europeos."

European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees [EFPT]

About:

The European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees [EFPT], founded in 1993, is the first (perhaps only) international organisation of specialist trainees in any branch of medicine. As a permanent observer member of the European Board of Psychiatry and the European Board of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the EFPT actively participates both in the development of educational guidelines and in the evaluation of psychiatric training institutions in Europe. Through its annually held European Forum for all Psychiatric Trainees the EFPT provides a unique opportunity for the exchange of training-related experiences and opinions on current developments in psychiatry.

Psychiatric trainees are involved both in the "productivity" of institutional health services and in learning the scientific basis and acquiring the clinical skills of their specialty. The EFPT, as an international professional group, is positioned to help trainees in its 23 member organizations to monitor the conditions of psychiatric training, the quality of teachers and teaching facilities, accessibility of library services, opportunities to engage in research, etc., to make comparisons between countries, and to point out discrepancies between the formal / official goals of training and the actual local training conditions.

In its annual European Forums for All Psychiatric Trainees, EFPT has develped statements on such topics as:

  • National trainee organisations (Copenhagen 1995)
  • General medicine and neurology in psychiatric training (Ireland 1994)
  • Quality of training: supervision and evaluation (Copenhagen 1995)
  • Training in child psychiatry (Lisbon, 1996)
  • Psychotherapy training (Lisbon, 1996)
  • Requirements for teachers (Lisbon, 1996)
  • Quality assurance in training: independent inspections of training institutions (Athens, 1997)
  • Logbooks (Athens, 1997 and Ghent, 1998)
  • Experience in research (Ireland, 1994 and Athens, 1997)
  • Exchange of trainees between different countries (Copenhagen, 1995)
  • Part-time training (Ireland, 1994)
  • Removal of trainee from training (Ghent, 1998)

The experience that trainees thus accrue will help them deal with other organisational structures relevant to the specialty and to become more capable members of their professional societies.
