About: | The Center for Substance Abuse Research [CESAR] is a research center within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, University of Maryland College Park. It is dedicated to addressing the problems substance abuse creates for individuals, families, and communities. To this end, the mission of CESAR is to inform policymakers, practitioners, and the general public about substance abuse--its nature and extent, its prevention and treatment, and its relation to other problems. In pursuing its mission CESAR conducts policy-relevant research and evaluation studies, disseminates statistical and other information, assists in training students in substance abuse research methods and policy analysis, and provides technical assistance to agencies and organizations working in substance abuse related fields.

About: | The Center for Sustainable Change [CSC] (formerly the Health Realization Institute and R C Mills and Associates) is a non-profit organization intended to teach educators, youth-service workers, communities and families how to engage the innate resilience—the natural human capacity for learning, creativity, compassion, common sense and well-being—in the youth they teach and care for. Its philosophy derives from principles of "Health Realization" derived from Theosophy-inspired teachings of Sydney Banks.

About: | The Center for Telemedicine Law [CTL] was formed to keep telemedicine practitioners and interested parties informed of legal developments affecting telemedicine. CTL is a non-profit corporation which has tax-exempt status. Its founding members are the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Mayo Foundation, the Midwest Rural Telemedicine Consortium, and Texas Children's Hospital. Membership is comprised of healthcare providers and others using or interested in using telemedicine.
CTL distributes information and serves as a resource on legal issues related to telemedicine. Members will be connected via e-mail and have the opportunity to engage in dialogue regarding the issues they face in their practice. Through e-mail and a newsletter, members also receive information about developments in state and federal law affecting telemedicine. Members also have the opportunity to participate in task forces formed to report on the legal and regulatory obstacles confronting telemedicine. Task forces on Licensure and on Reimbursement have already been formed. Those task forces held meetings with participation from interested organizations and governmental agencies and are in the process of drafting reports summarizing the current state of the law in those areas and analyzing the various alternatives for addressing those issues. |

About: | Established in 1985, the Center for Victims of Torture is America's oldest clinic for the rehabilitation of torture survivors. A private, non-profit institution, it has a fill-time professional staff, and 185 volunteers and a million dollar budget. It has treated over 500 of the estimated 200,000 torture survivors living in the United States. A recently started program helps children of victims, who may show secondary post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms. The Center offers services in Sierra Leone and Liberia. |

About: | The United States Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services [CMS] was formerly called the Health Care Financing Administration [HCFA].
CMS is a federal agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services [DHHS]. CMS runs the Medicare and Medicaid programs - two national health care programs that benefit about 75 million Americans. And with the Health Resources and Services Administration, CMS runs the >State Children's Health Insurance Program [SCHIP], a program that is expected to cover many of the approximately 10 million uninsured children in the United States. CMS also regulates all laboratory testing (except research) performed on humans in the United States. Approximately 158,000 laboratory entities fall within CMS's regulatory responsibility.
