The mission of the Medical Information Systems Unit [MISU] of Boston Medical Center (the the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine) is to develop and evaluate automated systems for monitoring, educating, and counseling patients and consumers regarding their health, and to facilitate the care that they receive from health providers. MISU was established in 1980.

MISU includes 4 doctoral level scientists among 24 full-time staff and has 16 NIH grants and 15 other grants active. MISU provides education in clinical and behavioral informatics through graduate courses and through a postdoctoral fellowship program in medical informatics
